Match Recap

Getafe and Celta Share Spoils in Goalless Stalemate

Getafe 0-0 Celta Vigo
Coliseum, Getafe • La Liga • Sunday 1 February 2026

Getafe and Celta Vigo played out a frustrating goalless draw at the Coliseum that did little to advance either side’s ambitions in contrasting seasons. The result leaves Celta in seventh place with 33 points from 22 matches, whilst Getafe remain mired in 16th on 23 points, just five clear of the relegation zone.

The match statistics told the story of a game that never truly caught fire. Getafe dominated the shot count with eight attempts to Celta’s two, yet managed only two on target compared to Celta’s zero. More tellingly, the expected goals figures highlighted the lack of genuine quality chances, with Getafe registering just 0.29 xG and Celta a paltry 0.05.

Celta’s superior technical quality showed in their 53% possession and higher pass completion rate in the final third, but they struggled to convert territorial advantage into meaningful opportunities. Their formation switch to a 3-4-2-1 system appeared designed to frustrate Getafe’s direct approach, and it succeeded perhaps too well.

The booking of Ilaix Moriba after 19 minutes set an early tone of caution, with referee Iosu Galech Apezteguia keeping a tight rein on proceedings. Matías Satriano’s yellow card for the hosts and Borja Iglesias’ caution for Celta reflected the game’s physical but largely sterile nature.

Both managers made wholesale changes in the final quarter-hour, with Celta introducing five substitutes and Getafe responding in kind. The tactical tinkering suggested neither side was satisfied with what they were seeing, but the flurry of fresh legs failed to unlock the deadlock.

For Celta, this represents a missed opportunity to build on their impressive 1.52 points per game average and push towards European qualification. Getafe, meanwhile, will view the clean sheet as progress given their recent defensive struggles, though their 1.05 PPG return continues to tell a story of a team in survival mode.

The result leaves both sides contemplating what might have been in a fixture that promised more than it delivered.
